About the role
As an Intern in the Mechanical Robustness team, you will collaborate closely with Dyson's Verification and Mechanical Test Development Team to support the evaluation of chemical properties, solutions, and compositions, and their impact on the robustness of plastic parts. Under the mentorship of experienced engineers, you will engage in various stages of test development, data analysis, and reporting, playing a vital role in enhancing product quality and performance.
- Your role will involve delving into the intricacies of material science, as you design and execute experiments aimed at unraveling the chemical mysteries of plastic part production.
- Utilizing a diverse array of analytical techniques such as spectroscopy, chromatography, and microscopy, you will meticulously analyze material properties, contributing valuable insights to inform Dyson's testing protocols and procedures.
- Your days will be filled with hands-on experimentation, conducting chemical analyses, and mechanical tests on plastic parts to explore their resilience under different environmental conditions.
- With each test performed, you will gather data, eagerly anticipating the insights it will unveil and delving into its analysis. From these analyses, you will assist in crafting comprehensive reports and distilling complex findings into actionable recommendations to drive continuous improvement efforts.

About you
Dyson is seeking candidates who are:
- Able to start the internship in Oct/Nov 2024 or Jan/Feb 2025
- Pursuing or having recently completed a bachelor’s or master’s degree in chemical engineering, material science, or a related field.
- You should have a strong theoretical understanding of chemical principles, polymer science, and materials characterization techniques.
- Hands-on experience with laboratory experimentation and proficiency in data analysis using statistical tools and software are highly desirable.
