Your role

About the team

Dyson software and hardware need to combine to make the machines intelligent, so you’ll be interacting with teams from product developers to electronics engineers to ensure our solutions are functional, secure, and easy to use. In addition, you’ll be supported with a development framework designed to provide the technical and commercial know-how to help you drive your Dyson career. The work will be challenging and varied but you’ll be getting stuck in from day one, helping to influence the future of Dyson technology.

Dyson offers the opportunity for aspiring graduate software engineers to join one of the following teams:

Intelligent Machines

The Intelligent Machines team is responsible for developing robotics behaviour  and machine learning software including robotics algorithm development and software implementation for the targeted hardware for our products and ecosystem.

Embedded Software

The embedded software team is responsible to design and implement firmware that runs on the target MCU inside Dyson product. The team delivers firmware that interprets what are the input signal coming from the sensors, process the input signal, translate it to a proper system behavior and produce the desired ouput to drive heaters or drive motors depending on the Dyson product   

Software Test & Quality Assurance

Dyson Software Test & Quality Assurance teams are responsible for the verification of software customer features and software systems that sit across all Dyson machines, app,s and clouds. Harnessing a wide range of software or hardware environments across multiple platforms to develop automation code in various programming languages, such as Python, C/C++, java, and Labview, they drive and pioneer diverse sets of automated tests to ensure software features are robust and perform well. The team also leads continuous quality improvement in software at Dyson, ensuring software development activities comply with required industry and regulatory & standards, such as software security and safety.

You’ll be assigned to a live project team putting your university learning into practice from the get-go. Depending on your skillset you could be working on real-time embedded software, Mobile App development, debugging, cloud computing or fast prototyping in C/C++.

Depending on your area of expertise your accountabilities may include:

  • Software design, implementation, testing, and integration in different domains
  • Developing technical solutions for new & existing product streams for large-volume manufacture
  • Verifying & validating solutions against requirements
  • Proactively adopting good quality engineering practices within the Dyson framework.

About you

Working at the forefront of technology is tough so standards and expectations are high. You’ll be contributing to live projects from the start so you’ll need to be curious, hungry to learn, and ready to get stuck in. But it’s not just about technical expertise. You’ll need to be:

  • Studying toward a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer, Electrical, Electronic Engineering, Robotics, Information Systems, or a related discipline
  • In your penultimate year and able to commit full-time for at least 12 weeks from June/July 2023
  • Familiar with programming languages such as Embedded C, Modern C++, Python, Java, etc.
  • Demonstrate practical application of your skills, for example via personal projects or society memberships/events
  • Have a creative approach to problem-solving to ensure our machines are better
  • Be able to thrive in Dyson’s fast-paced environment
  • Willing to travel to Johor for the internship
  • Above all, you’ll want to play a key part in bringing the next generation of Dyson technology to the world.
