About the role

Dyson is looking for a Graduate Product Performance Engineer to join our Technology Development team, to support the key performance development of Dyson's new floorcare products.

Working as part of a small team you will be responsible for the primary product performance which included Pick up and Separation Systems. You will be working alongside the design team to create new ways to measure and predict key performance parameters and ensure that Dyson's technologies are up to meeting their ambitious targets. You will use a mixture of tests, simulation, and engineering judgment to solve the problems that arise as the team develops Dyson's technologies and products. You will work from the very early stages of a project, taking responsibility for development when the technologies leave the research stage, developing them to a feasible solution, and then supporting Dyson's SEA counterparts to take them through to production. 

Some of your tasks could include:

  • Identify and manage product and sub-assembly level challenges associated with product performance and resolve them successfully.
  • Work side by side with the Design Manager and design engineering for allocated projects and provide technical consultancies and advice on the dimension that is critical to performance through the system diagram.
  • Conduct experiments or other relevant analysis methods and tools to develop and validate our understanding and solutions.
  • Ability to identify risk and keep all stakeholders up to date on the progress and status of allocated projects.
  • Confidently and clearly present and articulate ideas to an audience in both written and verbal communication.
  • Drive analysis of data, ensure robust test methodology and conclusive proposals for timely delivery of solutions and verification reports using basic competency in Matlab, Minitab, Excel, and/or Python. 
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with design engineers and broader cross-teams at all levels.

About you

Dyson's graduate roles are competitive and delivering the next generation of Dyson technology is tough, so you will need to be: 

  • Graduating by August 2023
  • Working towards or having achieved a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Mechanical or Mechatronic Engineering (other relevant engineering disciplines will be considered)
  • A good working knowledge of the fundamentals of fluid dynamics, Air - Solid separations, and physics.  
  • A sound understanding of experimental methods and processes, particularly regarding pressure, and flow measurement techniques.
  • A good understanding of the principles and application of CFD methods.
  • A good working knowledge of commercial CAD tools, preferably NX.
  • A good working knowledge of Matlab or any other adequate analysis tools.
  • Good working knowledge of MS Office Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • High levels of initiative and self-motivation.
  • Good analytical ability and attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate appropriate, concise, and accurate information in written and verbal format.
  • To be able to multi-task and plan effectively when working with a variety of project teams and projects in an often high-pressure, competitive environment.
  • Excellent team-working skills
  • To be eligible you will need to have no more than two years of relevant work experience post-graduation (Ph.D. students are not eligible for this graduate program).
