Your role

As a Graduate Design Engineer within the New Product Development team, you’ll be expected to hit the ground running on one of Dyson’s many live projects, applying your university knowledge from the get-go. Working as part of a larger project team in one of our product categories (Floorcare, Environmental Care, and Sustaining), you’ll have your own set of project deliverables and the chance to take ownership of how these are achieved.

Graduate Design Engineers do sketching, CAD, prototyping, testing, discovering root causes of problems and refining design to deliver robust solutions to the high standards of product development Dyson is known for, working on ideas that will transform markets.

As a Graduate Design Engineer, you will:

  • Developing mechanical parts, assemblies and systems from concept to production
  • Developing and validating mechanical designs that meet requirements
  • Conceptualising, developing and detailing ideas for future mechanical parts
  • Creating test methods and necessary rigs& fixtures for component and system characterization and validation.
  • Analyse test results and communicate insights & findings with both technical and non-technical colleagues, constantly looking to challenge and develop Dyson engineering practices to continuously improve design quality. 
  • Working with engineers and scientists/technical experts across a broad range of disciplines, you’ll be comfortable learning from others, but also sharing your own knowledge, ideas and opinions.

About you

Dyson graduate roles are competitive and delivering the next generation of Dyson technology is tough, so you will need to be: 

  • Working towards or having achieved a relevant engineering discipline degree.  
  • Sound understanding of basic mechanical/product design principles and the development of products and technologies through prototyping and testing
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of multiple tooling and manufacturing techniques.
  • Able to evidence how you have applied your technical knowledge to solve problems, either through your internship, university projects or as part of your co-curricular activities
  • Graduating by August 2023
  • Passionate about Dyson and our technology to help us meet our ambitious plans. 
  • To be eligible you will need to have no more than two years of relevant work experience post-graduation (Phd students are not eligible for our graduate programmes).
